Medi-Spa at Mercy: Reiki Therapy
Reiki is probably one of the most misunderstood practices
of complementary medicine. Its effects on the whole person-body,
emotions, mind and spirit-can produce miraculous results. It
can improve health and enhance the quality of life. Medical
doctors are conducting scientific experiments to document its
role in the healing process and enhancing the immune system.
What is Reiki?
The word Rei means spiritual wisdom or consciousness.
This is wisdom from God or the Higher Self. Ki is the universal
life force. It is a non-physical energy that resides in
all living things. Ki is all around us. If your energy
is low or blocked, you are more susceptible to injury or
disease. If your energy is high and flowing freely, you
are more immune to injury or disease. It is amazingly simple.
How
does it work?
Reiki practitioners channel energy through different hand
positions over the recipient’s body in order to heal
and harmonize. Reiki restores vital energy to people who
have become unbalanced and consciously commit to wanting
to improve oneself.
What are the benefits?
Reiki energy has many beneficial therapeutic effects.
It is a great technique for:
- strengthening the immune system
- stress reduction
- deep relaxation
- detoxification
- destroys energy blockages
- induces feelings of peace, security and well-being
How is it performed?
There are a few positions in which the practitioner is touching
the patient (i.e.-cradling the head), but most Reiki treatments
do not involve actual touching. This is wonderful because
it allows the treatment to be administered fully clothed.
The advantage is that it can be performed anywhere - treatment
room, operating room, chemotherapy unit, nursing home,
and elsewhere. The patient does not have to be able to walk, as it
can be administered in a chair or wheelchair.
Most people
can benefit from healing the spirit and consciously deciding
to improve oneself and their quality of life.
