Located on the Mercy campus in the heart of downtown Baltimore, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Mercy is easily accessible and provides all the amenities a major metropolitan hospital can offer.

Director Bernard Chang, M.D., and his associates, Craig Vander Kolk, M.D., and Brendan Collins, M.D., work closely with every patient to achieve the most desirable and satisfying results. Highly regarded as leaders in their field by both patients and colleagues, Drs. Chang, Vander Kolk and Collins provide leading-edge surgical techniques complemented by emotional support and compassion.

Breast Restoration

The Center for Advanced Breast Restoration, a division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at Mercy, offers highly specialized techniques to help women restore their natural image. A woman’s own fatty tissue can be used to rebuild her breast, without removing muscle. This allows improved recovery and natural-looking results. Our Center is one of a few centers in the country to offer these innovative breast reconstruction procedures, and of these, among the most experienced. Drs. Chang and Collins work side-by-side with the renowned surgeons of The Hoffberger Breast Center. Together, they form one of the finest breast cancer and breast reconstruction teams in the region.

Reconstructive Surgery

Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery also offers expertise in the area of reconstruction, most notably facial reconstruction.  This type of surgery includes the removal of skin cancers and reconstruction to replace the tissues that were removed.  Dr. Vander Kolk works closely with the physicians of The Institute for Cancer Care to assist in reconstruction of more extensive cancer surgery.  Facial reconstruction also encompasses facial injuries and birth defects, such as cleft lip and palate.  Cleft surgery at Mercy involves many specialists including Otolaryngology, Dentistry, Orthodontics and Speech Therapy.  Dr. Vander Kolk has a long-standing reputation in the region and extensive experience for treating this condition.

Cosmetic Medicine

Cosmetic Medicine at Mercy offers a full range of leading-edge, cosmetic procedures. Drs. Chang, Vander Kolk and Collins have exceptional skill and clinical expertise in the areas of facial surgery, body contouring, breast augmentation, tummy tuck, and liposuction.
