The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Mercy offers an individual approach to the childbirth experience. We understand that you have ideas and expectations about your birth experience and have created a warm, caring and supportive environment that provides individual attention, comprehensive services and the resources to guide you through this momentous time.

We also recognize that giving birth to baby is a significant time in the life of a family. To help make your delivery an enjoyable, comfortable experience, Mercy provides a relaxed home-like environment to ensure that all family members can share in the joy of the birth.

Robert Atlas, M.D., Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has established a dedicated, talented team of physicians and clinical staff with the expertise to meet the individual needs of your pregnancy, from routine obstetrical procedures to high-risk conditions.

Mercy’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Offers:

  • Nurse Midwife Services - Certified Nurse Midwives who offer prenatal, delivery and post-natal care to expecting couples
  • Prenatal Massage
  • Pregnancy and Childbirth Education
  • Center for Advanced Fetal Care for ultrasound, genetic testing, diabetic education and assessment of fetal well-being
  • Contemporary LDR suites - labor, delivery and recovery in the same private room
  • Private Mother-Baby Rooms with baths and accommodations for the new family
  • Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for babies who are born prematurely, have transition issues after delivery or develop signs of distress in the newborn period

  • Home Visit program after discharge
  • Family Health Centers of Baltimore, Inc., provides cost-efficient and accessible health care regardless of insurance status. They accept most major insurances, Medicaid, and HMOs, and can arrange for sliding-scale fees to assist the uninsured with physician and other expenses.
