Neil B. Rosenshein, M.D., F.A.C.O.G.
Gynecologic oncologist Neil B. Rosenshein, M.D., is the Director of The
Institute for Gynecologic Care at Mercy as well as Medical Director of The
Weinberg Center for Women's Health and Medicine at Mercy. Additionally, Dr.
Rosenshein is the Director of The Gynecologic Oncology Collaborative, a network
of Gynecologic Oncology Centers throughout Maryland. Dr. Rosenshein is Board
Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Division of Gynecologic
Oncology.
Dr. Rosenshein has established a world-renowned medical team
utilizing state-of-the-art technology for the diagnosis and
treatment of gynecologic cancers, including cervical, ovarian,
uterine, and vaginal cancer. The Center provides early detection
and screening; medical and surgical treatment of gynecologic
cancers; individual risk assessments; patient education and
preventive measures; clinical trials, and research in gynecologic
oncology.
Dr. Rosenshein was formerly director of Gynecologic Oncology
at Johns Hopkins Hospital, 1980-1995. He is a member of the
American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the Society
of Gynecologic Oncologists, the American Society of Clinical
Oncology, the Medical and Chirurgical Faculty of the State of
Maryland, the Obstetrical and Gynecological Society of Maryland,
the Mid-Atlantic Gynecologic Oncology Society, the Baltimore
City Medical Society; and is a Fellow of the American College
of Surgeons.
Dr. Rosenshein has published articles in nearly 150 medical
journals and publications, including the Journal of the
American Medical Association, the American Journal
of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the New England Journal
of Medicine.
He authored the book, Manual of Gynecologic Oncology
and co-authored Surgery in Retroperitoneal Space: An Operative
Gynecology Videobook, He also wrote seven chapters in
various medical books, which were distributed throughout the
United States, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland.
Dr. Rosenshein was named in the August 1997 edition of the
national magazine, Good Housekeeping, as one of the
best gynecologic oncologists in the nation.
Dr. Rosenshein was named Humanitarian of the Year (2002) by
the Mildred Mindell Cancer Foundation, joining Mercy's own Dr.
Neil B. Friedman, Director of the Breast Center at Mercy (1998)
as recent recipients. Rosenshein was selected for "the significant
research and achievements he and The Center for Women's Health
and Medicine at Mercy have made in the ongoing battle against
women's cancers and women's illness." Established in 1957 by
a group of Baltimore women in honor of their close friend, Mildred
Mindell, who died of cancer, the Foundation helps support such
organizations as the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation,
the American Cancer Society, the Leukemia Society, pediatric
oncology care, hospice and home care, research, and other worthy
projects.
Dr. Rosenshein is also involved in medical research, including
serving as the Primary Investigator for a study involving The
Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health to isolate markers
in the blood that may help find tumors (2003). This study is
sponsored by the National Cancer Institute, Cancer Biomarkers
Research Group and Early Detection Research Network.
Dr. Rosenshein was recognized for "a life completely dedicated
to battling cancer and safeguarding women's health" at the
2003
"HealthCare Heroes" awards celebration presented by The
