Gynecology Center: Pelvic Organ Prolapse
Pelvic organ prolapse means that the uterus and/or the vagina
have fallen down from its normal position. This can be caused
by a variety of conditions over the course of a woman's life
which may include childbirth, aging, chronic coughing or heavy
lifting, just to name a few.
Pelvic organ prolapse can occur in different areas of the vagina
but can be diagnosed in the physician office with a physical
exam and a detailed health history consultation. This diagnosis
is rarely caused by serious underlying conditions such as cancer.
Hence, treatment plans are based on the severity and quality
of life issues discussed at your consultation with the physician.
