BACKGROUND: A graduate of the University of Maryland Medical School, Dr. Whitten completed his residency in Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Maryland Hospital in 1977. Dr. Whitten is board certified by the American College of Orthopedic Surgeons. Dr. Whitten also specializes in sports medicine, including arthroscopic surgery and joint replacements. He has more than 32 years of experience in Orthopedics and has performed over 3,000 total joint replacements including total knee and partial knee replacements as well as total hip and minimal invasive anterior total hip arthroplasty. He specializes in arthroscopy of the knee and shoulder, sports medicine, knee, shoulder and hip arthroplasty.
MISCELLANEOUS: Dr. Whitten was team orthopedic
surgeon for the Baltimore Skipjacks Hockey Team, 1982-1993. He
has also served as an orthopedic consultant to both the Washington
Capitals professional hockey team and the Washington Bullets,
National Basketball Association.
Dr. Whitten is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic
Surgeons and of the American College of Surgeons. He is a member
of the Board of Governors of the Maryland Orthopedic Society.
