Craig A. Vander Kolk, M.D.FIELD: Plastic, Cosmetic, Reconstructive Surgery POSITION/TITLE: Plastic surgeon with the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery center, Weinberg Center for Women’s Health & Medicine at Mercy Medical Center. BACKGROUND: Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Dr. Vander Kolk received his medical degree in 1980 from the University of Michigan School of Medicine, and completed his residencies in general surgery and in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of Michigan Medical Center. Dr. Vander Kolk completed Fellowships in hand and microvascular surgery and in craniofacial surgery at the Microsurgery Research unit, St. Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne Australia, and the University of Pennsylvania, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, respectively. Dr. Vander Kolk joined Mercy in 2006 from The Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center, Division of Plastic, Reconstructive and Maxillofacial Surgery. He served as Co-Director of the Johns Hopkins Cosmetic Center. Dr. Vander Kolk has received an academic appointment at Johns Hopkins as Professor of Plastic Surgery. His professional experience also includes serving on active staff at The Children’s Hospital and Center for Reconstructive Surgery; The Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services; University Hospital, University of Maryland; and Francis Scott Key Medical Center. MISCELLANEOUS: Dr. Vander Kolk’s clinical areas of interest include craniofacial growth craniofacial imaging; techniques and devices for rigid fixation; bone substitutes; distraction osteogenisis etiopathogenisis of clefts outcomes of treatment for craniofacial and cleft patients. He is a member of the American Board of Plastic Surgery, the American Society of Craniofacial Surgery, the American Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Association, the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, and many other medical professional associations. Dr. Vander Kolk has a large number of peer-reviewed scientific articles to his credit, as well as books, book chapters, and other media, exploring issues relative to his field of medicine. He is also a founder of Camp FACE, Finding Anonymity in a Camping Environment, a yearly weekend camp for children with facial differences. Dr. Vander Kolk was named one of the nation’s “Top Docs” (2011) for Plastic Surgery in U.S. NEWS AND WORLD REPORT.
