FIELD: Radiation Oncology

POSITION/TITLE: Director of Radiation Oncology, Mercy Medical Center

BACKGROUND: Board certified by the American Board of Radiology, Dr. Jacobs earned her medical degree from the Universidad Central de Venezuela in Caracas, Venezuela. She trained at Howard University in Washington, D.C., and the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque before joining the University of Maryland in Baltimore as an Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology.

During her tenure at the University of Maryland, she contributed in the development of the Breast Evaluation program and was an investigator in the areas of combined-modality treatment for breast, gynecological and head and neck tumors. Dr. Jacobs was also the residency program director for three years and was active in teaching and mentoring of students pursuing careers in radiation oncology.

Prior to joining Mercy, Dr. Jacobs was a faculty member of Johns Hopkins Radiation Oncology at Green Spring.

MISCELLANEOUS: Dr. Jacobs is a member of the American Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO) as well as the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Dr. Jacobs currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the Maryland Science Center, and has done so since 2004.

Dr. Jacobs was responsible for the development of the new Radiation Oncology Center, with the opening of the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Center in the fall of 2003. Dr. Jacobs also oversees the operations of Mercy's radiotherapy services.

Dr. Jacobs currently serves as an abstract reviewer for the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology. She has authored a book chapter in partnership with Dr. Deborah Frassica, Johns Hopkins radiation oncologist:
