POSITION/TITLE: Director, The Maryland Spine Center; Medical Director and
Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, University of Maryland School of Medicine

BACKGROUND: Dr. Edwards received his education at Duke University, University of Maryland School of Medicine and Yale University for Orthopaedic and Spinal Surgery. He rose to tenured Professor at the University of Maryland where he served as Chief of Shock-Trauma Orthopaedics and the University's Department of Orthopaedics, as well as Director of the Spinal Fellowship program.

Dr. Edwards is among the nation's most prominent spinal and orthopaedic surgeons. He has developed many new procedures to improve surgical results and has conducted extensive clinical research. Based on his work, Dr. Edwards has published more than 150 articles and chapters, made over 300 presentations at national meetings and holds 19 medical patents.

MISCELLANEOUS: Dr. Edwards has served as President of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association, Director of the Spinal Fixation Study group and is a member of all major spine societies including the Scoliosis and Cervical Spine Research Societies, NASS and AAOS. He has received numerous research and teaching awards, more than 50 guest professorships and clinical honors including Maryland Physician-of-the-Year.
