BACKGROUND: Fermin F. Barrueto, M.D., F.A.C.O.G., formerly chief of the GYN Division and Course Director of the M.I.S.T.I. (Minimal Invasive Surgical Training Institute) at Saint Joseph Medical Center in Towson, joined Mercy Medical Center in 1999.

Dr. Barrueto is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and in Advanced gynecologic endoscopy. Dr. Barrueto is a recognized expert in microsurgery, gynecology, laparoscopy, endoscopy, hysteroscopy, and other fields related to women's health care.

A graduate of the Trujillo School of Medicine in Peru, Dr. Barrueto completed his internship at the Brooklyn Jewish Hospital in New York City in 1971. He conducted a successful private practice as an OB/GYN for 18 years before joining St. Joseph's as Chief of Gynecology in 1992.

MISCELLANEOUS: Dr. Barrueto received his training in microsurgery at the Microsurgical Institute at Leuven, Belgium, and at the Institute of OB/GYN at Hammersmith Hospital in London, England. Dr. Barrueto also received training in GYN-endoscopy at the Department of OB/GYN at the University of Keil, West Germany

His professional memberships include the American Fertility Society, Medical Chirurgical Society; Diplomate, American Board of OB/GYN; Fellow, American College of OB/GYN; American Association of Gynecological Laparoscopists; Peruvian American Medical Association; and the Council for Gynecologic Endoscopy. Dr. Barrueto is a resident of Towson.
