Mercy Medical Center BACKGROUND: Dr. Abdo specializes in treatment for pituitary gland tumors, herniated disks, carpal tunnel syndrome, brain tumors, aneurysms, lumbar spinal stenosis (the narrowing and hardening of the spinal column). Board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery, Dr. Hatem Abdo earned his doctorate of medicine in 1971 from the Ain Shams Medical School in Cairo, Egypt following his graduation from London University in London, England. Dr. Abdo received his medical professional training between 1971 and 1979 at University Hospital in Cairo, Makassed Hospital in Jerusalem, Franklin Square and University Hospitals in Baltimore, the National Hospital in London, and the University of Western Ontario in Ontario, Canada. Dr. Abdo completed his residency in general surgery, surgery, and neurological surgery. Dr. Abdo is a member of the Baltimore County Medical Society, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the Maryland Neurological Society, and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons as well. MISCELLANEOUS: Dr. Abdo is also in medical practice with fellow neurosurgeon Dr. Charles Park (Central Maryland Neurosurgical Associates, LLC). Their practice has sites in Rosedale, Lutherville, and at Mercy Medical Center in downtown Baltimore. Central Maryland Neurosurgical Associates, LLC offers "spinal instrumentation," (refers to various procedures to correct degenerative spinal problems, typically including the use of surgical plates, rods, screws and cages to straighten and support the spine). Dr. Park specializes in neck and back surgeries.
