Mercy Announces Specialty Physicians Now Seeing Patients In Columbia

Columbia, MD — Mercy Medical Center’s Crossroads Professional Center, located at 4801 Dorsey Hall Drive, Suite 204, has announced the addition of 10 specialty physicians to its Columbia site. The 10 physicians now accepting new patients are:

Susan McLaughlin, M.D. – Dermatology
Susan McLaughlin, M.D., graduated from Georgetown University with honors and obtained her medical degree with honors from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She completed an internship in pediatrics at Children’s National Medical Center and a dermatology residency at the University of Maryland Medical System, where she served as Chief Resident in her final year. She has published several articles in scholarly medical journals. Dr. McLaughlin is board certified by the American Board of Dermatology.

Catherine Jonnakuty, M.D. – Endocrinology
Dr. Jonnakuty received her undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland, College Park, and her medical degree from Kasturba Medical College. Dr. Jonnakuty completed her fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism from Penn State University and was a Post Doctoral Intramural Research Training Award Fellow at the National Institutes of Health and Human Resources. Board certified, Dr. Jonnakuty completed her Internal Medicine residency and internship at the NYU School of Medicine at Lenox Hill Hospital.

Dr. Jonnakuty is a member of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, the Endocrine Society, and the Pennsylvania State Medical Society. She has participated in many research initiatives and has numerous honors, publications and presentations to her credit.

Patrick Hyatt, M.D. – Gastroenterology
Dr. Hyatt earned his medical degree at the Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine and his fellowship in Gastroenterology at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. Dr. Hyatt is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and is Board-Eligible in Gastroenterology. He has numerous clinical presentations and medical publications to his credit, addressing disorders of the GI tract as well as treatments such as chemoprevention of colon cancer. Dr. Hyatt is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association, American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and American College of Gastroenterology.

Phuong Nguyen, M.D. – General Surgery
Dr. Phuong X. Nguyen received his medical doctorate in 2000 from the University of Colorado School of Medicine, completing his post-graduate medical education in general surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Dr. Nguyen received a plastic surgery fellowship, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, in 2006

David Riseberg, M.D. – Medical Oncology
Dr. Riseberg. received his medical training and performed his residency at the University of Maryland Medical system, graduating with honors. He went on to do a fellowship at the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health, joining the Mercy staff as a clinical oncologist in 1995.

Dr. Riseberg is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and certified in the subspecialties of medical oncology and hematology. He is also a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncologists, for whom he has presented and published original research on cancer and cancer treatments. Dr. Riseberg has also published articles in medical journals and presented research to the American Association for Cancer Research.

Charles Park, M.D. – Neurosurgery
Charles Park, M.D., is a graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo, where he earned both his medical degree and Ph.D., as well as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science. Dr. Park completed neurological surgery residencies at both the Northwestern McGraw Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois and the University of Maryland Medical Center. Dr. Park specializes in minimally invasive spine surgery and is a Board Certified Neurosurgeon.

Joseph Ciotola, M.D. – Orthopedics
Dr. Ciotola earned his medical degree from The University of Maryland School of Medicine where he also completed his general surgery internship and orthopedic surgery residency.

Dr. Ciotola specializes in total hip replacement; ACL reconstruction; carpal tunnel syndrome; total knee replacement; general orthopedics; cubital tunnel syndrome; rotator cuff repair; thumb arthritis; total shoulder replacement; shoulder stabilization; fracture and orthopedic trauma care; and minimally invasive hip replacement, including use of the “anterior approach” which great reduces patient rehab/recovery.

Dr. Ciotola is an author of various research papers and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.

Craig Vander Kolk, M.D. – Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery
Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Dr. Vander Kolk received his medical degree in 1980 from the University of Michigan School of Medicine, and completed his residencies in general surgery and in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of Michigan Medical Center.Dr. Vander Kolk completed Fellowships in hand and microvascular surgery and in craniofacial surgery at the Microsurgery Research unit, St. Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne Australia, and the University of Pennsylvania, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, respectively. Dr. Vander Kolk joined Mercy in 2006 from The Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center, Division of Plastic, Reconstructive and Maxillofacial Surgery. He served as Co-Director of the Johns Hopkins Cosmetic Center.

Dr. Vander Kolk’s clinical areas of interest include craniofacial growth craniofacial imaging; techniques and devices for rigid fixation; bone substitutes; distraction osteogenisis etiopathogenisis of clefts outcomes of treatment for craniofacial and cleft patients. He is a member of the American Board of Plastic Surgery, the American Society of Craniofacial Surgery, the American Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Association, the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, and many other medical professional associations.

Warren T. Oberle, M.D. – Urology
Dr. Oberle received his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX. He completed his residency in General Surgery and in Urology at the University of Maryland Medical System.

A member of the American Urologic Association, Dr. Oberle has a number of clinical abstracts and peer reviewed articles to his credit. His medical interests include laparoscopy and endoscopy, oncology, incontinence, cryotherapy for kidney tumors, and erectile dysfunction.

Robert Thompson, Jr., M.D. – Urology
Dr. Thompson received his medical degree at the University of Maryland at Baltimore School of Medicine in 1988. Dr. Thompson was Chief Resident-Urology at the University of Maryland Hospital (1993-1994) and completed his residency and internship in surgery at Saint Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, MD. He has held a faculty position as instructor in surgery at the University of Maryland Hospital since 1994.

Dr. Thompson is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Urological Association, the Baltimore City Medical Society, the Maryland Urologic Association, and is Associate Fellow, American College of Surgeons. Dr. Thompson has numerous awards and publications to his credit on such topics as prostate and bladder cancer.
