Mercy's "Pink Promises" Campaign To Encourage 10,000 Women To Have Their Annual Breast Exam

October 2008 — Mercy Medical Center launched its first ever "Pink Promises" campaign on Oct. 8th in the lobby of the hospital's Weinberg Center at 227 St. Paul Street, inviting Mercy's nearly 3,000 employees to pledge to contact at least three women (e.g. mother, daughter, aunt, niece, friend, etc) and encourage them to schedule an appointment for their annual mammogram/breast exam. The "Pink Promises" campaign recognizes October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and brings attention to the hospital's upcoming Oct. 10th dedication of the Women's Imaging Center in honor of the late Tyanna O'Brien (Ms. O'Brien passed away in her 40s due to breast cancer; her five daughters, including Anne O'Brien, hold the annual BreastFest awareness-and-fundraising event every October; BreastFest, to be held at Nick's raises monies for the Tyanna Foundation which benefits the Hoffberger Breast Center at Mercy).

In addition, an announcement will be made that proceeds from the sales of Dunkin Donuts' "Pink Donuts" line will benefit the Tyanna Foundation which has raised nearly $500,000 for Mercy in the past nine years.

Keynote speakers included Sister Helen Amos, RSM, Executive Chair, Mercy Board of Trustees; Dr. Barbara Jaeger, Director, Women's Imaging at Mercy; Anne O'Brien, BreastFest coordinator; and Kristin Doehring, Regional Marketing Manager for Dunkin' Donuts.

Pink Promises pledge cards are now being distributed to all Mercy employees and will also be available throughout the hospital to patients and visitors. To participate, complete the pledge card and drop it in one of boxes located in the Weinberg lobby, the main lobby of the hospital at 301 St. Paul Street, and outside the Hoffberger Breast Center and the Women's Imaging Center on the 5th floor of the Weinberg Center, 227 St. Paul. Be sure to call, text, e-mail, write, or personally remind three or more women to schedule an annual mammogram. Each completed Pink Promises pledge card will be entered into a weekly incentive drawing.

A special celebratory dinner will be held for Ms. O'Brien, her family, guests and friends of Mercy on Friday evening, Oct. 10th as Mercy's Women's Imaging Center is officially dedicated in honor of the late Tyanna O'Brien.

The 10th annual BreastFest will be held on Saturday, Oct. 11th at Nick's Fish House, 2600 Insulator Drive in Baltimore City.
