Nick's Fish House will host the 2010 BREASTFEST fundraiser to benefit The Hoffberger Breast Center at Mercy |
12th Annual Breastfest Baltimore Benefits The Hoffberger Breast Center At Mercy
BreastFest Baltimore 2010, an event to raise awareness about breast cancer, will be held on Saturday, October 9th, 1-6 p.m. at Nick’s Fish House, 2600 Insulator Drive in Baltimore (21230). The event will benefit The Hoffberger Breast Center at Mercy Medical Center and their programs in breast cancer awareness, prevention, diagnosis and treatment. Last year’s event raised more than $130,000 for the fight against breast cancer.
Started in 1998 as a tribute by the family of Tyanna O’Brien, a New Jersey mother who died of breast cancer at age 48, BreastFest is the signature event of the Tyanna Foundation which works to increase awareness and generate money for breast cancer research, services, education, treatment and patient care.
BreastFest Baltimore, held in October in recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, features great food, drink and live musical entertainment. Bands this year include Captain Jack, The Sara O’Brien Band, and The Real Geniuses. Enjoy foods courtesy of such restaurants as Alexander’s Tavern, Baba’s Mediterranean Kitchen, Gianni’s Gourmet Fundraising, Kooper’s Chowhound, Pizzazz Tuscan Grille, One-Eyed Mikes, Mother’s Federal Hill Grille, and Slainte.
Anne O’Brien, founder of the Tyanna Foundation and one of Tyanna’s five daughters, works closely with Marsha Oakley, RN, of the Hoffberger Breast Center. Marsha is a breast cancer survivor, recognized by the Reach To Recovery Program of the American Cancer Society; by Hadassah for her work with the CHECK IT OUT program; and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Marsha, who was recognized in 2004 at The White House for her outreach efforts, also orchestrates Mercy’s annual observance of National Cancer Survivors’ Day.
Improving the lives of breast cancer patients is at the heart of the Tyanna Foundation. The foundation honors a mother’s life, love and legacy which lives on today, embodied by her five daughters. It is their commitment to awareness and prevention that inspires and leads the work of the Tyanna Foundation.
Tickets are $60 and may be purchased online at www.breastfest.org/baltimore.
All proceeds benefit patient care at The Hoffberger Breast Center at Mercy. For more information, visit www.tyanna.org. For more details about Mercy and the Hoffberger Breast Center, go to www.mdmercy.com or call 1-800-M.D.-Mercy.
