Mercy Medical Center To Implement Picis High-Acuity Software

Picis Technology to Improve Workflow Patient Safety in Perioperative Care Areas

Baltimore, MD. — Mercy Medical Center has announced its selection of technology developed by Picis, the leading provider of high-acuity care information systems, to help improve patient safety and operational efficiencies. Picis’ information systems enable hospitals to automate clinical documentation and business practices in the emergency department (ED), operating rooms, post-anesthesia care units (PACUs) and intensive care units.

Mercy will implement Picis’ total perioperative automation system in 18 operating room suites spanning three different surgery areas — Mercy'main hospital, the Weinberg Center for Women’s Health and Medicine at Mercy, and the new inpatient tower which will open in 2010. A Picis customer since 1992, Mercy’s upgrade to Picis’ CareSuiteÔ is designed to provide fast and accurate flow of patient data throughout the entire perioperative continuum of care, including preoperative assessments, intraoperative documentation, PACU and recovery. With Picis’ integrated product suite and data sharing with the Meditech hospital information system, hospitals can decrease repetitive documentation and phone calls, increase staff efficiencies, improve communication and help promote quality of patient.

“Expanding our relationship with Picis provides us with a roadmap for the future,” said Susan MacMillan, Sr. V.P. Patient Care at Mercy. “Picis total perioperative solution gives us a leading solution that can benefit our patients and clinicians by helping provide easier access to patient information, anytime, anywhere.”

In addition to implementing CareSuite OR Manager, Anesthesia Manager, Preop Manager, PACU Manager, Quality Manager and SmarTrack®, Mercy is using Picis Business Transformation Services to discover process improvements and best practices for optimizing these high-cost areas with Picis’ cutting-edge technology.
