Mercy Hosts "Preemie For A Day" Interactive Workshop For Nurses And Occupational Therapists
On June 28-29, Mercy Medical Center hosted a “PREEMIE FOR A DAY” interactive workshop in the Truman Semans Room of Mercy’s Weinberg Center in downtown Baltimore.
Led by a team of clinically active professionals with a variety of NICU backgrounds, this interactive, multisensory training allowed participants to experience an infant’s journey, from birth through admission, and the opportunity to practice developmentally supportive care throughout their stay. Participants not only learned and discussed ways to improve the care and outcomes for their tiniest patients, but also actually experienced the reasons for approaching care in a developmentally supportive manner.
Participants had the chance to experience:
- How to use positioning and handling techniques to promote flexion and self soothing
- How to foster developmentally supportive care during admissions
- How to introduce feeding strategies that will promote successful feedings
- How to facilitate family and professional collaboration in the NICU
Nurses received 4.2 contact hours; Occupational Therapists, 3.5 contact hours
Philips Children’s Medical Ventures supplied the CEUs.
