Artscape’s annual Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition and the McKeldin Square Sculpture Park have strengthened the image of Baltimore as a thriving and cultured city. The Baltimore Office for Promotion and the Arts decided to build on the success of these two outdoor sculpture areas, expanding into other parts of the city, including Preston Gardens (St. Paul Street between East Pleasant and Lexington Streets), The Baltimore Convention Center, the Station North Arts & Entertainment District, and the Baltimore Museum of Art.

Mercy Medical Center and Sr. Helen Amos, RSM (who chairs the Downtown Partnership) worked with the Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts in bringing the works of Paul Daniel (Baltimore, MD) and Andrey Yff (Carney, MD) to Preston Gardens, located across St. Paul from Mercy Medical Center (301 St. Paul) and The Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Center at Mercy (227 St. Paul).

Mr. Daniel’s work, Kiko-Cy (2007) is in steel and aluminium and is made available courtesy of the C. Grimaldis Gallery in Baltimore. Mr. Yff’s work is entitled, Eat the Rain (2007), and is a combination of metal, fiberglass, spoons and paint. Both artists have been part of Baltimore’s artist community for many years.

It is hoped that these exhibits will generate continued interest in public art and bring attention to downtown, enhancing the city landscape as a great place to live and work.

The sculptures will be on display until April 2008.
