Internationally Renowned Urogynecologist Marcella L. Roenneburg, M.D., of Mercy Medical Center to Receive Jewish Women International's 2006 Women to Watch Award
Jewish Women International (JWI) has selected Marcella L. Roenneburg, M.D. as one of its 10 esteemed 2006 Women to Watch, for her inspiring work in women's health here in the U.S., and her efforts to improve the quality of life - and even save the lives - of women in African nations.
Dr. Roenneburg is a urogynecologist in The Gynecology Center located in the Weinberg Center for Women's Health and Medicine at Mercy. She has traveled to Africa through The International Organization for Women and Development, Inc., to train doctors in repairing injuries that cause incontinence and other gynecological problems.
Dr. Roenneburg has worked to address the problem of vesicovaginal fistulas, an issue which afflicts millions of women globally, in such nations as Niger, Bangladesh and Sierra Leone. For her work, Dr.
Roenneburg was honored in 2005 as a "Physician Hero" by The Daily Record newspaper in Baltimore.
She is a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists and member of the American Urogynecology Society, Society of Gynecologic Surgeons, and Maryland Obstetric and Gynecology Society.
Dr. Roenneburg is one of 10 women from across the United States and Israel who will be profiled in the fall issue of Jewish Woman magazine and honored December 15, 2006 at the ninth annual Women to Watch gala luncheon, awards ceremony and Up Close & Personal honorees' discussion.
The event will take place at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Washington, D.C.
