Dr. Paul Lucas Of The Vascular Center At Mercy Discusses "VeinGogh" Treatment For Spider, Varicose Veins

Many women are unhappy with unwanted varicose veins, but a new procedure called VeinGogh is helping solve the problem with no downtime.

Varicose veins can appear on the face or the limbs, and those that appear on the legs are often a source of embarrassment for women.

At Mercy Medical Center's Vascular Center, vascular surgeon Dr. Paul Lucas is excited about VeinGogh.

"VeinGogh is not a laser treatment. It is a microburst of energy through a hair-like metallic probe," he explained. "What it does is it gives a microburst of electricity in the area around the vein wall that causes the vein wall to collapse, which will completely collapse the vein permanently."

According to Dr. Lucas, there's no downtime to the treatment, although there may be some residual redness after the procedure, which will go away. VeinGogh is a cosmetic treatment, so it's not covered by insurance. It costs $250 for a treatment.
