Heart and Sole Stroll

Mercy Medical Center Partners With The Red Devils To Assist Breast Cancer Patients... Red Devils Heart & Sole Stroll On June 14th

Mercy Medical Center is a partner of The Red Devils, a nonprofit organization that provides support services to families in Maryland living with breast cancer. The Red Devils takes their name from the bright red chemotherapy drug Adriamycin, known to breast cancer patients as “the red devil.” The Red Devils fund services to improve quality of life for breast cancer patients and their families. The emotional and physical impact of this disease may make some of the things we take for granted almost impossible, such as house cleaning, getting to doctor appointments, preparing family meals, etc.

The Red Devils present the 7th annual HEART AND SOLE STROLL, Sunday, June 14th, to benefit Maryland breast cancer patients and their families. Prep for the 2.4 mile walk at Centennial Lake in Columbia, MD by registering early on-line right now and lining up pledges from loved ones, friends and co-workers.

Founded by the families of Jessica Cowling and Ginny Schardt, who succumbed to breast cancer in 2002, The Red Devils is a Baltimore-based 501 (c) (3) organization that funds services to improve the quality of life for patients and families living with breast cancer including transportation to and from treatment; help with drug co-payments; meals and groceries. (For example, at Mercy, the Red Devils provided a grant to allow acupuncture treatments for breast cancer patients at Mercy’s Medi Spa, part of the Weinberg Center for Women’s Health and Medicine).

Mercy is one of 35 Red Devils-partner hospitals and breast centers in Baltimore City as well as Allegheny, Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Frederick, Harford, Howard, Montgomery, Prince George’s and Washington Counties plus areas of the Eastern Shore. Breast cancer affects more than 4,200 Marylanders – some of them men – each year.

Individual registration for the Heart and Sole Stroll is $35; a family registration is $70. Everyone – including family pets – is welcome to participate in this non-competitive walk held “rain or shine” June 14.

For more information about the Heart and Sole Stroll, to register, make a contribution, volunteer, or set up a corporate “matching gift” donation program, visit the special stroll site www.heartandsolestroll.org or call The Red Devils headquarters at (410) 323-0135.
