Mercy Takes Part In National Cancer Survivors Day Observance With "Celebration Of Life" And "Beyond Cancer" Forum On June 4th At Hyatt Regency Inner Harbor

In recognition of NATIONAL CANCER SURVIVORS DAY, Saturday, June 4th, 2011, The Prevention and Research Center at Mercy Medical Center, The Institute for Cancer Care at Mercy and the Comprehensive Cancer Control Program at the MD Department of Health and Mental Hygiene present “BEYOND CANCER: A Cancer Survivorship Forum,” 7:45 a.m. -3 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Baltimore at the Inner Harbor, 300 Light Street.

The goal of this one-day program is to raise awareness and provide education on cancer survivorship issues.

Participants may pre-register by selecting one topic per workshop below:

Workshop 1

  • Navigating Cancer Related Legal and Insurance Issues
  • Balancing and Managing Work and Life After Cancer
  • Living Well: A Focus on Exercise and Nutrition
  • Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction and Music Therapy

Workshop 2

  • Understanding the Significance of Family History and Genetic Testing
  • Navigating Cancer Related Legal and Insurance Issues
  • Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction and Music Therapy
  • Complementary Medicine: Current Evidence

Workshop 3

  • Balancing and Managing Work and Life After Cancer
  • Complementary Medicine: Current Evidence
  • Living Well: A Focus on Exercise and Nutrition
  • Preventing and Managing Treatment Side Effects

There is no fee to attend the forum. However, space is limited and advanced registration is required. The forum is suitable for cancer survivors, caregivers, general public, policymakers and healthcare providers. All forum participants should register for all three workshops, choosing one topic in each workshop. Complimentary continental breakfast, boxed lunch and parking will be provided.

The forum should conclude by 2:30 p.m. when The Sisters of Mercy and the physicians and staff of Mercy Medical Center will then present a CELEBRATION OF LIFE in honor of National Cancer Survivors Day. The celebration will include music, prayer and reflection, lighthearted entertainment and remarks from cancer survivors and caregivers. This year’s keynote speaker is Ms. Alaina Jenkins. A reception follows immediately afterwards.
