Camp Face Founder Dr. Craig Vander Kolk, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery At Mercy, Leads This Weekend's Annual Summer Camp
Camp Face is a camp for children with congenital facial differences.
Friday night, May 29th, is the beginning of this year's session at Camp Face, to be held at Camp Hidden Valley north of Baltimore (4722 Mellow Rd in White Hall, MD 21161) this weekend from Friday evening to Sunday morning.
"FACE" stands for Finding Anonymity in a Camping Environment. Each child at the camp was born with a congenital facial difference.
Camp Face was founded in 1993 by Dr. Craig Vander Kolk, Associate Director of Plastic Surgery at Mercy Medical Center.
"While we can do surgery and try to help the children, the important thing is how they deal with it internally," Dr. Vander Kolk said.
Camp Face does this by allowing the children to interact with others who are dealing with the same issue.
Currently, there are 35 campers registered for this weekend. Camp Face counselors are all volunteers. It is paid for by fundraisers and donations.
