Ribbon-Cutting Ceremonies Recognize Official Opening Of Lutherville Personal Physicians

As part of Mercy Medical Center’s ongoing efforts to bring the 137-year Sisters of Mercy tradition of quality health care to greater numbers throughout the region, Mercy recognized the opening of Lutherville Personal Physicians, 1734 York Road, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, held on Wed., May 18th at 2 p.m.

The Honorable Kevin Kamenetz, Baltimore County Executive was among the area dignitaries to attend, including John Olszewski, Chair of the Baltimore County Council; Councilmembers Todd Huff and David Marks; Maryland State Delegate Bill Frank; Mercy Health Services President and CEO Thomas R. Mullen; Dr. Neil B. Rosenshein, Director, The Weinberg Center for Women’s Health and Medicine at Mercy; and Sister Helen Amos, RSM, Executive Chair, Mercy Board of Trustees.

Located at York and Ridgely Roads in the Ridgley Shopping Plaza (the former Giant Food store), Lutherville Personal Physicians is a comprehensive, one-stop, medical facility featuring primary care, specialized physician care, and diagnostic radiology, chemotherapy and pulmonary services.

"With the opening of this Lutherville center, Mercy transforms a vacant grocery store into a convenient location for quality health care," said Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz. "This innovative use of space is a clear example of how creative thinking can reinvigorate older commercial buildings."

According to LPP medical director Dr. George Lowe, the multi-phase project is “about two months ahead of schedule. We had 12 new primary care providers and five Mercy specialty providers begin seeing patients at the new location earlier in early March and now have 14 primary care physicians on site. Eventually, we’ll have 42 Mercy specialists seeing patients here,” Dr. Lowe said.

In the coming weeks and months, additional phases of Lutherville Personal Physicians will open which include these Mercy Centers of Excellence: Weinberg Center for Women’s Health & Medicine, The Orthopedic Specialty Hospital, The Institute for Cancer Care, The Center for Digestive Health and Liver Disease, The Vascular Center and The Heart Center. In all, more than 30 Mercy specialists will be available to treat patients at the new Lutherville site.

“We’ve seen an outpouring of patients since March and expect between 75-100,000 primary care patient visits per year,” Dr. Lowe added.

Lutherville Personal Physicians is a 45,000 square foot, approximately $5 million facility featuring 35 physician “pods,” i.e. workspaces for physicians, including 2-3 exam rooms and space for medical assistants.

When fully completed, ancillary services at Lutherville Personal Physicians will include: Phlebotomy, Echodardiology and EKG, Stress Testing and comprehensive Imaging services such as plain film, MRI, CT, Ultrasound, Digital Mammography and Bone Densitometry.

In addition to Mercy’s new site at York and Ridgely, the practice of Dr. David Hartig at 10155 York Road in Cockeysville is also affiliated with Lutherville Personal Physicians. He is joined by nurse practitioners, Jenepher Piper, Susan Porter, Mary Rackson and Robin O’Hara.

Patients at Lutherville can schedule all their appointments through one convenient phone number, 410-252-CARE (410-252-2273). In addition, Mercy’s Center for Women’s Health and Medicine at Lutherville has a dedicated line for patients, 443-275-5050. Further details are available at www.luthervilledocs.com

Lutherville Personal Physicians is Mercy’s latest addition to its plan to “ring the beltway” with community health centers. LPP joins Overlea Personal Physicians, Worthington Personal Physicians in Reisterstown and the Mercy Specialty Physicians in Columbia in offering the highest quality care to the Greater Baltimore region.

“In recent years, with the opening of the Weinberg Center for Women’s Health and Medicine in 2003 and the 20-story, Mary Catherine Bunting Center -- a whole new, state of the art hospital-- in December of last year, Mercy is now recognized as a regional institution. Sites like Lutherville Personal Physicians and comparable health care centers in other areas ‘around the beltway,’ allow us to bring the Mercy tradition of academic medical facility care delivered in a community hospital setting to more and more people throughout the state,” said Thomas R. Mullen, President and CEO, Mercy Health Services, Mercy Medical Center.
