New Orleans' Big Sam's Funky Nation to Headline 7th MammoJam Music Festival — Music Event Helps Benefit The Hoffberger Breast Center At Mercy

The MammoJam Music Festival, Inc. is proud to present the 7th Annual MammoJam Music Festival on Saturday, April 17th, 6:30pm at Baltimore’s famed 8x10. Big Sam’s Funky Nation are the latest New Orleans based stars to make their Baltimore debut at the festival to promote local breast cancer awareness, early detection, and treatment programs. Tickets are $45 in advance and $55 at the door and can be purchased at the 8x10 or at www.mammojam.org.

Big Sam’s Funky Nation won the Big Easy Music Award as New Orleans “Best Funk Band”. The band’s leader Sammie Williams has been recognized by the San Francisco Chronicle as the “the top man on the slide trombone in the birthplace of jazz” and was recently awarded a prestigious Louisiana Division of the Arts Fellowship for his contributions to the New Orleans music scene. Big Sam’s live shows are renowned for their high voltage energy level and audience enjoyment. They will be joined by local standouts and MammoJam regulars the Grilled Lincolns, as well as first time MammoJam performers Old Man Brown and Laura Brino.

“Big Sam’s Funky Nation continues the tradition of nationally renowned New Orleans artists coming north to headline MammoJam.” said Bill Romani, founder of MammoJam. “We are fortunate to have them along with another slate of outstanding local bands to support women and families touched by breast cancer.” Please visit www.mammojam.org for more information regarding the MammoJam’s mission, tickets, and sponsorship opportunities.

MammoJam is a non-profit, grass roots organization dedicated to promoting breast cancer awareness, prevention, detection, and treatment programs for underinsured and low income women. Created in October, 2003, MammoJam provides annual support to local organizations like the Hoffberger Breast Center at Mercy Medical Center and Harbor Hospital’s Breast and Cervical Cancer Center, in their fight against breast cancer. In December, 2009 MammoJam established a new community outreach-translator position at Harbor Hospital to better serve the city's hispanic women in need of breast cancer screening and treatment
