Mercy Announces Addition of Noted Pulmonologists Drs. Ko-Pen Wang and Albert J. Polito
Ko-Pen Wang, M.D., nationally noted pulmonologist, has joined
Mercy Medical Center as Director of Interventional Pulmonary Services
at Mercy following 10 years as Director of Interventional Bronchoscopy
at The Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. Dr. Wang, who also
served as Director of the Chest Diagnostic Center at Harbor Hospital
Center since 1989, brings more than 40 years of clinical experience
to Mercy.
Dr. Wang is joined by Dr. Albert J. Polito, Assistant Professor
of Medicine with the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine
with The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Polito
joins Mercy from The Johns Hopkins Asthma and Allergy Center.
Dr. Polito, who serves as Co-Chief of the Division of Pulmonary
Medicine at the downtown hospital, is also Director of The Lung
Center at Mercy and is seeing patients in Suite 715 of Mercy’s
Professional Office Building at 301 St. Paul Place.
Dr. Wang completed his Pulmonary Fellowship at The Johns Hopkins
University School of Medicine in 1974. His background includes
serving as Assistant Professor of Medicine and of Otolaryngology,
Head, and Neck Surgery at Johns Hopkins. Author of clinical texts
Basic Concept of Cytology (1976), Biopsy Techniques in Pulmonary
Disorders (1989) and Flexible Bronchoscopy (1995), Dr. Wang has
dozens of medical journal articles to his credit, as well as abstracts,
and is a sought after speaker world-wide.
Dr. Wang has served as a medical consultant at hospitals throughout
the region, including Harbor Hospital, St. Joseph’s, Good
Samaritan, the University of Maryland Hospital and Greater Baltimore
Medical Center.
Dr. Wang has served on the Board of Directors of the American
Association for Bronchology and on the Board of Regents of the
World Association of Bronchology, among many professional medical
societies of which he is a member.
Dr. Polito earned his medical degree from the New York University
School of Medicine in 1989. Senior Chief Resident in Internal
Medicine at the New York University Medical Center, Bellevue Hospital,
Dr. Polito served as a Fellow in Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine
at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He has numerous
clinical publications to his credit.
