About Mercy/FAQs:
Mission of the Sisters of Mercy
Mission Statement
Rooted in God's healing love for all people, Mercy Medical Center, sponsored
by the Sisters of Mercy, provides and promotes health services for the
people of Baltimore of every creed, color, economic and social condition.
Guided both by its Philosophy and Mission, Mercy Medical Center is a Catholic
community hospital with university affiliation. Mercy also sponsors neighborhood
health centers and other outreach programs.
We strive to provide excellent clinical services within a community
of compassionate care for the sick, dying and their loved ones. Concern
for their spiritual and personal well being is reflected in every level
of service.
We welcome the entire community, creating an environment where
each individual can be comfortable and where all are served with courtesy
and respect. In the tradition of the Sisters of Mercy, Mercy continues
a special commitment to the poor and underserved.
We hold ourselves accountable to the highest standards of clinical
and corporate ethics.
We advocate just public policies, especially those affecting access
to health care.
We collaborate with others to assure the necessary continuum of
health care in the greater Baltimore area.
We operate in a financially responsible manner, recognizing that
all of our human and material resources are in the service of this mission.
Philosophy and Core Values
Human dignity is grounded in the belief that all persons are created
in the image of a loving God and called to reflect that love in their
lives. As social beings, we come to realize our dignity and to reflect
God's love in and through communities, working together for the common
good. At Mercy Medical Center, patients, physicians, employees and volunteers
of diverse backgrounds enrich our healing ministry.
In Mercy's healing ministry, we recognize that illness confronts each
of us with what we believe about life and with the mystery of sickness,
death, and resurrection. In life and death, we belong to God. Within our
power, we work to cure. Always, we promise to care and to support the
best quality of life possible at a given moment in a patient's journey
to God.
Guided both by its Philosophy and Mission, the Mercy Medical Center community
commits itself to the following core values:
Hospitality: We welcome one another as children of the same God, whose
mercy we know through the warmth, kindness, and generosity of others.
A climate of hospitality contributes to the healing process.
Mercy/Justice: Compassionate love fosters equality and fairness,
and shapes relationships in a spirit of deepest tenderness, reconciliation,
and human respect.
Excellence: Excellence holds us to the highest standards of care,
as well as to the courtesy, respect, and compassion with which that care
is rendered.
Empowerment: Empowerment enables people to act, both on their
own behalf and on behalf of others. The ability to shape decisions affecting
our lives contributes to overall well-being. A healing community empowers
both those who serve and those who are served.
Stewardship: Given to us in trust, our world is sacred and deserves
respectful care. We are all responsible for the creative and wise use
of our human, financial, and material resources.
Prayer: In the face of human suffering, God remains with us. Prayer
is our response to God's faithful presence in every moment of our lives.
