The Institute for Foot and Ankle Reconstruction at Mercy offers a wide variety of opportunities for advancing treatment, teaching, and research. It serves as a training program for elite medical students through a competitive International Fellows program. The Institute is also an incubator for ground breaking research. As one of Mercy’s Centers of Excellence, The Institute is now prepared to expand its research capabilities through the creation of a dedicated Foot and Ankle Laboratory.

Foot and Ankle Laboratory
This space will enable The Institute to be a national leader in foot and ankle reconstructive issues.

The Laboratory will permit The Institute to perform:

  • Retrospective studies on a regional and national scope, thereby contributing to the body of knowledge available to academic medical centers, government, and insurers
  • Materials testing for the surgical supply and prosthetic industry
  • Comprehensive analysis of new surgical procedures and technological advances, anatomical investigations, and specialized gait examinations

The Laboratory, under the direction of Dr. Myerson and a Research Fellow, will be located on the Mercy campus.

International Fellows
The International Fellows program allows physicians from around the world to come to Mercy Medical Center to train in foot and ankle reconstruction. The Institute places a strong emphasis on selecting participants who will return to their home countries, where they will share their new-found knowledge and mentor other doctors. The importance of strong bones, healthy tissue and functioning joints in the foot and ankle is integral to a healthy and productive life. Thanks to the International Fellows program, countless patients around the world are benefiting from an ever expanding network of highly trained foot and ankle specialists.

Two Fellows per year study at The Institute for six months and receive a monthly stipend and a housing allowance. All other Fellows and visiting physicians, who typically study at the Institute for one to three months, receive a housing allowance during their stay.
