Circulatory disease is a major issue faced by many diabetes patients. The Diabetes Center has full use of the expertise, training and technology found within the Mercy Blood Flow Laboratory and Vascular Center at Mercy under the direction of Chief Vascular Surgeon Dr. Luis Queral.

Dr. Queral has more than 20 years experience in vascular medicine and is board certified in surgery and general vascular surgery. Dr. Queral received his surgical training at the University of Maryland Hospital and fellowship training at Northwestern University Medical School. He has also served as Director of the Maryland Vascular Institute at Union Memorial Hospital; Associate Professor of Surgery (with tenure) at the University of Maryland School of Medicine; Assistant Professor of Surgery at The Johns Hopkins University, and Director of the Blood Flow Laboratory at the University of Maryland Hospital.

The Vascular Center provides simultaneous performance of radiological and surgical procedures; treatment of carotid stenosis and other diseases to prevent stroke; aneurysm disease treatment designed to diagnose and treat aneurysm problems prior to rupture; limb-preserving vascular reconstruction for patients with difficulty walking and/or threatened extremities due to poor circulation; diagnosis and treatment of venous problems such as swollen legs and varicose veins.

Dr. Jay LeBow, DPM, FACS, FAS
Director, The Foot Center at Mercy

Board certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery, Dr.LeBow earned his doctorate in podiatric medicine from the Pennsylvania College of Podiatric Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. He completed his residency in 1984 at the Broad Street Hospital and Medical Center in Philadelphia.

Approved by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and the American Podiatric Medical Association, Dr.LeBow specializes in reconstructive foot and ankle surgery and sports medicine.

Dr.LeBow is the official team podiatrist for the Baltimore Orioles major league baseball team. In addition to diabetic foot care, Dr.LeBow treats heel and arch pain; bunions; calluses and corns; hammertoes; ingrown toenails; fungus infections; foot warts; fractures, and sprains. He provides orthotics, conducts laser surgery, and provides arthritic footcare. Dr.LeBow is a Fellow of both the American College of Podiatric Medical Review and the American College of Foot Surgeons.

Dr. Sean Sider, DPM
The Foot Center at Mercy

Dr. Sean Sider provides consultation and treatment services for patients with foot problems due to diabetes complications in The Diabetes Center at Mercy. Dr. Sider received his doctorate in podiatric medicine from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. He is board qualified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery. Dr. Sider completed his podiatric surgical residency at Mercy Medical Center and at Liberty Medical Center in Baltimore. He conducted his fellowship in foot and ankle surgery at the University of Maryland Medical Center.

Insulin Pump Specialist

Insulin Pump Specialist Sheila A. Matlak, RN, CDE,D, provides patient education Tuesdays and Thursdays in The Diabetes Center at Mercy. Sheila has more than 10 years experience in diabetes care. A graduate of the Maryland General Hospital School of Nursing, Sheila has worked in multiple settings including a multi-physician office for 12 years. She is a member of the American Association of Diabes Educators and the Maryland Chapter fo the AADE. A diabetes patient herself for the past 28 years, Sheila is active in the volunteer sector for diabetes treatment and management.
