The Maryland Spine Center
Mercy named a “Best National Hospital” in Orthopedics by U.S. News & World Report |
The Maryland Spine Center is a one-of-a-kind center specializing in advanced treatment for patients with common spinal conditions and severe spinal deformities. Founder and Director, Charles Edwards, M.D., leads a team of nationally recognized spine physicians, including Charles Edwards, II, M.D., Clayton Dean, M.D., Brian Steinmetz, D.O., and Mara Vucich, D.O.
The physicians of The Maryland Spine Center are dedicated to developing innovative non-operative treatments, as well as surgical procedures that enable the best possible outcomes for patients with degenerative conditions of the neck and back, deformities, fractures and/or tumors. Currently, The Maryland Spine Center is participating in the first ever National Institutes of Health-sponsored clinical trial for adult scoliosis.
Recognizing the potential of many conditions to stabilize over time, appropriate non-operative measures are pursued as a first line treatment, if possible. For severe deformities, cases of neurologic dysfunction, and when non-operative treatment has proven ineffective, surgery is pursued. The guiding philosophy of surgery is to perform the smallest surgery that will reliably correct the disorder, with a minimum risk of medical complications or future problems.
Located at Mercy Medical Center, The Maryland Spine Center’s state-of-the-art facilities provide patients the most advanced technology for cutting-edge diagnosis and treatment. Renowned clinical expertise, dedication to research, innovation, and development, along with Mercy’s mission of compassionate, high-quality care make The Maryland Spine Center one of the nation’s premier spine centers.
