Thomas V. Whitten, M.D.
Thomas V. Whitten, M.D., Chief of Orthopedics and Medical Director of The Orthopedic Specialty Hospital at Mercy, is a graduate of the University of Maryland Medical School and completed his residency in Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Maryland Hospital. Board Certified, Dr. Whitten specializes in sports medicine, including arthroscopic surgery and joint replacements. Dr. Whitten served as team orthopedic surgeon for the Baltimore Skipjacks ice hockey team as well as an orthopedic consultant to both the Washington Capitals ice hockey team and the Washington Bullets basketball team. Dr. Whitten is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and American College of Surgeons. He is a member of the Board of Governors of the Maryland Orthopedic Society.
Joseph John Ciotola, M.D.
Joseph John Ciotola, M.D., received his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine and completed his General Surgery internship and Orthopedic Surgery residency at the University of Maryland Medical System. Board Certified, Dr. Ciotola specializes in the anterior approach to hip replacement. In addition to hip conditions, he focuses on the diagnoses and treatment of the shoulders, knees, and hands, including ACL reconstruction, shoulder stabilization, rotator cuff repair, total shoulder replacement, total knee replacement, carpal tunnel syndrome, cubital tunnel syndrome, and thumb arthritis. Dr. Ciotola also treats orthopedic trauma. Prior to joining Mercy, Dr. Ciotola served as an orthopedic surgeon with the Orthopedic Associates of Central Maryland. He is the author of various research papers and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.
Marc W. Hungerford, M.D.
Marc W. Hungerford, M.D., Director of Joint Replacement and Reconstruction at Mercy, received his medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, where he also completed his internship in General Surgery. He completed his residency in Orthopedic Surgery at Johns Hopkins University. A Board Certified orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Hungerford has immense expertise in the anterior hip replacement approach. He also focuses on adult joint replacement and preservation including hip, knee, and shoulder arthroscopy; pelvic osteotomy; minimally invasive joint replacement; joint replacement revisions; and treatment of avascular necrosis. Dr. Hungerford previously served as Chief of Johns Hopkins Orthopedics at Good Samaritan Hospital and was an Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Hungerford has spoken at national and international medical association meetings and has extensive research experience. An author of numerous publications, abstracts, and book chapters, he is currently an ad hoc reviewer for various medical journals. Dr. Hungerford is a member of the American Medical Association, American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, ARCO, National Osteonecrosis Foundation, Maryland Orthopedic Association, and Southern Orthopedic Association. Dr. Hungerford also was named by Baltimore Magazine a 2009 "Top Doctor" in the Orthopedic specialty.

Kamala H. Littleton, M.D., received her medical degree from the Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed her Orthopedic Surgery residency at the University of Maryland Medical System.
Board Certified, Dr. Littleton specializes in the anterior approach to hip replacement, minimally invasive total knee replacement, knee arthroscopy, and ACL reconstruction. In addition to hip and knee replacement, she performs shoulder arthroscopy, including stabilization and arthroscopic rotator cuff repair.
Dr. Littleton leads The Women’s Orthopedic Program at Mercy, which was developed to focus on the diagnosis and treatment of conditions to which women are more susceptible. Previously, as an active duty Major in the United States Air Force, Dr. Littleton practiced orthopedic surgery at David Grant Medical Center at Travis Air Force Base in California.
A published author, Dr. Littleton is a member of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.
