Ciotola, M.D., Marc Hungerford, M.D., Kamala Littleton, M.D, and Vipul Nanavati, M.D. Together, Mercy’s team of orthopedic surgeons perform the most anterior hip replacements in the State of Maryland. This new approach to hip replacement typically enables patients a quicker recovery time with less post-operative restrictions. Mercy is proud to be the first hospital in Maryland to offer MAKOplasty® partial knee resurfacing, an alternative to total knee replacement.

The Joint Journey at Mercy is a unique component that focuses on providing hip and knee replacement patients with information, resources, and personalized, quality care throughout the entire joint replacement process.

 

Joint Replacement and Reconstruction at Mercy

Joint Replacement and Reconstruction at Mercy includes comprehensive hip services and degenerative knee and shoulder services. Mercy’s orthopedic surgeons are the first in Maryland to offer MAKOplasty partial knee replacement and are some of the first in the region to perform the anterior approach to hip replacement, which typically enables a quicker recovery time with fewer restrictions. Also specializing in primary and revision hip, knee, and shoulder replacement; hip, knee, and shoulder arthroscopy; and replacement and preservation of hip, knee, and shoulder joints in adults, the surgeons are dedicated to successful outcomes and improved life quality for their patients. Key components to the joint replacement and reconstruction services are patient education and support prior, during, and after surgery.

Orthopedic Services

Specialty care for a variety of orthopedic conditions are offered, including arthroscopic stabilization and rotator cuff repair, multiple ACL reconstruction techniques, advanced fracture care, and sports medicine. Treating both young and older patients, the physicians develop individual treatment plans to most effectively benefit their patients’ needs.
