The Women's Orthopedic Program:
About Our Center & Expertise
The Women's Orthopedic Program was designed
to treat the specific orthopedic needs of women. Because women
are
hormonally,
anatomically
and biomechanically different from men and their lifestyles subject
them to different body stresses, women are disproportionately
affected by certain orthopedic injuries and conditions. These
differences can begin as early as adolescence with a higher
rate
of ACL injuries and continue into adulthood with overuse syndromes
in sports and in the workplace. They continue into post-menopausal
stages with increased risk of osteoarthritis, osteoporosis and
fractures resulting from lack of bone density.
By working in conjunction with The
Center for Restorative Therapies to educate women on simple preventive measures such as jumping
and landing properly, vitamin supplementation, proper nutrition
and exercises programs, The Women's Orthopedic Program aims
to decrease the occurrences of orthopedic conditions in women
and treat the existing ones. The Women's Orthopedic Program
and The Center for Restorative Therapies together provide a Sportsmetrics
program, specially designed for the female athlete.
