Mark M. Applefeld, M.D.

Mark Applefeld, M.D.

Mark M. Applefeld, M.D., is Chief of the Division of Cardiology at Mercy Medical Center as well the Director of The Heart Center at Mercy. Dr. Applefeld is also Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.

A graduate of Washington and Lee University, Dr. Applefeld earned his medical degree, Cum Laude, from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. After completing his internship and residency in Department of Medicine at the University of Maryland Hospital, Dr. Applefeld performed his fellowship in Cardiology at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. He then served as Chief Resident in Medicine at the University of Maryland Hospital.

Dr. Applefeld is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American College of Cardiology. He is a former president of the Maryland Chapter of the American Heart Association as well as a member of other professional associations including Alpha Omega Alpha, American College of Physicians, American College of Cardiology, and Maryland Society of Cardiology.

Board Certified in Cardiology and Internal Medicine, Dr. Applefeld's particular interests are clinical cardiology, heart failure, and cardiac disease in cancer patients. He has authored numerous publications, participated in editorial review boards and has lectured extensively nationally.

Monica Aggarwal , M.D.

Monica Aggarwal, M.D.

Monica Aggarwal, M.D., is Board Certified in Nuclear Cardiology, Cardiovascular Disease, and Internal Medicine. Dr. Aggarwal received her medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia, and completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the Tufts University/New England Medical Center in Boston, MA. She completed her Cardiology Fellowship at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.

Dr. Aggarwal has numerous clinical publications, national presentations and honors to her credit. She is a member of Women in Cardiology and is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. She has served as Co-Director of the Women’s Heart Program at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. She frequently lectures in the community to raise awareness of heart disease and often provides her expertise in WBAL-TV's The Woman's Doctor as well as other media outlets.

Dr. Aggarwal has a particular interest in nuclear cardiology, transesophageal echocardiography and women’s health. She is passionate about preventive heart disease and conducts frequent cardiovascular risk assessment screenings in the community. She takes great joy in empowering people to make lifestyle changes to improve their cardiovascular health. For those individuals whose heart health is already compromised, Dr. Aggarwal is trained in end stage heart failure and through her understanding, is able to offer patients with a larger spectrum of options such as IV home medical therapies and can facilitate the bridge to surgery and transplant.

Brian Kahn, M.D.

Brian Kahn, M.D., FACC

Brian Kahn, M.D., FACC, is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease. Dr. Kahn earned his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency at Union Memorial Hospital before earning his fellowship in Cardiology at the University of Maryland.

Dr. Kahn is a member of the Baltimore City Medical Society and a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology.

Frank Morris, M.D.

Frank Morris, M.D., FACC

Frank Morris, M.D., FACC, is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiology and is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He received his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine and completed his Internal Medicine internship and residency at the University of Maryland Hospital. Dr. Morris completed his fellowship in Cardiology at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Baltimore.

Prior to coming to Mercy, Dr. Morris was in private practice at the Midatlantic Cardiovascular Associates in Towson. Dr. Morris has authored numerous publications and abstracts and has several awards to his credit. He is a member of Med Chi Baltimore City and Baltimore County, American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology and Alpha Sigma Nu Jesuit Honor Society.

Amish C. Sura, M.D.

Amish Sura, M.D.

Amish C. Sura, M.D., FACC, is the Director of Interventional Cardiology in The Heart Center at Mercy.

Dr. Sura earned his medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Dr. Sura completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He then completed a fellowship in Cardiology at the University of Maryland Medical School followed by a fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at Emory University.

Dr. Sura's practice encompasses all aspects of General and Interventional Cardiology, including Trans-esophageal echo (TEE) and coronary, peripheral and structural heart interventions.

Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology, Dr. Sura is a member of the American College of Cardiology and the Society of Cardiovascular Angiography and Intervention.

Robert V. Zawodny, M.D.

Robert Zawodny, M.D.

Robert V. Zawodny, M.D., is the Director of Invasive Cardiology in The Heart Center at Mercy.

Dr. Zawodny earned his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine and received his undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and his fellowship in Cardiology at the same institution.

Dr. Zawodny is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Interventional Cardiology.
