Sarcoma
Sarcomas are uncommon cancers arising from connective tissues such as fat, muscle, blood vessels, deep skin tissues, nerves, bones, and cartilage. There are many sub-types of sarcoma with varying characteristics and degrees of severity. Surgery is the primary treatment for sarcomas and, depending on the stage of the cancer, chemotherapy and radiation therapy may be recommended.
Drs. Sardi and Gushchin utilize an aggressive approach and the most current technologies and limb-sparing procedures to treat soft tissue sarcomas. Intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and brachytherapy are modern radiation techniques frequently used in sarcoma treatment which require a high degree of cooperation between radiation oncologists and surgical oncologists. This multidisciplinary approach offers the most effective combination of therapies specific to the needs of each patient.
