Surgical Oncology at Mercy provides the integral components of world-class care—physician expertise, access to clinical trials and the most state-of-the-art treatment approaches, modern, high-tech facilities, and compassionate care in a warm, healing environment.
The clinical experts of Surgical Oncology at Mercy specialize in treating a broad range of cancers –everything from a routine diagnosis to the most complex cases. Both Drs. Sardi and Gushchin bring exceptional skill and the use of technological innovations to the treatment of their patients. Dr. Sardi is widely recognized as a pioneer in advancing, through teaching and research, Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC), used to treat advanced stages of abdominal cancer. He is also one of a handful of surgeons to have successfully performed laparoscopic surgery on liver tumors. Dr. Gushchin is among a small group of surgeons to have pioneered new surgical techniques in treating gastric cancer.
Drs. Sardi and Gushchin have a great interest in research and teaching, and have lectured at the local, national and international level. Both physicians are involved in new research trials and offer patients the best available alternatives in therapy while contributing to the ongoing quest to find a cure for cancer. Surgical Oncology at Mercy has successfully established a surgical oncology fellowship featuring a comprehensive curriculum required by the Society of Surgical Oncology.
Surgical Oncology at Mercy provides patients clinical expertise and modern technology within a holistic setting. The Surgical Oncology suite is located on the fourth floor of the newly constructed, state-of-the-art Weinberg Center at Mercy and is equipped with the leading-edge diagnostic tools and technological devices. Surgical Oncology at Mercy maintains a dedicated operating room and specially trained OR team. In addition to providing a high-tech environment for clinical purposes, The Weinberg Center at Mercy also is home to patient amenities such as a calming, two-story waterfall, a patient resource center, front door valet services and a MediSpa that offers therapeutic services.
