Radiation Oncology: About Our Physicians
Maria C. Jacobs, M.D.
Maria C. Jacobs, M.D., is Director of Radiation Oncology at Mercy
and oversees all radiotherapy services at Mercy Medical Center.
Board Certified by the American Board of Radiology, Dr. Jacobs
earned her medical degree from the Universidad Central de Venezuela
in Caracas, Venezuela. She trained at Howard University in
Washington,
D.C., and the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque before
joining the University of Maryland in Baltimore as an Assistant
Professor
of Radiation Oncology.
While at the University of Maryland, she contributed to the development
of the Breast Evaluation Program and was an investigator in the
areas of combined-modality treatment for breast, gynecologic,
and head and neck tumors. Dr. Jacobs was also the residency
program
director for three years and was active in teaching and mentoring
students pursuing careers in radiation oncology.
Prior to joining Mercy, Dr. Jacobs was a faculty member of Johns
Hopkins Radiation Oncology at Green Spring.
She is a member of the American Society of Therapeutic Radiology
and Oncology (ASTRO).
Marlana Ottinger, M.D.
Marlana Ottinger, M.D., Associate Director of Radiation Oncology at Mercy, is a Board Certified radiation oncologist. She received her
medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania and completed
her residency in Radiation Medicine at Georgetown University in
Washington, D.C.
Dr. Ottinger has served as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Radiation
Oncology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and
as Clinical Director of Penn Radiation Oncology at the Chester County
Hospital in Chester County, PA.
Dr. Ottinger has numerous awards and honors to her credit, including
selection by the Consumers Research Council to appear in The Guide
to America’s Top Physicians (2004-2005). She is a member of
the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology and
the Maryland State Medical Society, among other professional medical
organizations.
